Abstract

The increasing use of automatic motorcycles, particularly the Yamaha Aerox, creates a need for a tool that can assist users in identifying possible vehicle problems more quickly. Users often have limited knowledge of mechanical symptoms and still depend on mechanics to determine the type of damage. This study aims to design and develop a web-based expert system for diagnosing Yamaha Aerox engine problems using the Forward Chaining method. A qualitative approach was applied using interviews, observations, and literature studies for data collection. Knowledge obtained from mechanics was analyzed and represented as IF–THEN rules to form the knowledge base. The system was developed using PHP, the Laravel framework, and MySQL, while the Waterfall model was used for system development. Black Box Testing was applied to verify the functionality of the system. The results show that the system can process user-selected symptoms, match them with Forward Chaining rules, and display diagnostic results and recommended solutions. The system can serve as an initial decision-support tool for Yamaha Aerox users before further inspection by a mechanic.
